Committee Member
Service as a committee member is a one-year appointment with potential for reappointment for up to two additional terms. Service requires participation on monthly conference calls and additional calls for collaborative involvement on projects that meet the committee mandate and goals. 2024/2025 Meeting time is the third Wednesday of the month at 3 pm ET.

Mandate: The Emerging Technology Committee monitors and evaluates emerging and evolving technologies that impact the practice of sleep medicine. This committee is responsible for developing AASM member resources that provide information and analysis on emerging consumer and clinical sleep technology and potential ways to incorporate this technology into clinical practice, when/if appropriate.

Preliminary Goals for 2025/2026:

  1. Monitor emerging trends and evolving consumer and clinical technologies and analyze their impact on sleep medicine.
  2. Develop additional new technology assessment reports while reviewing and updating existing #sleeptechnology reports on a regular basis.
  3. Develop educational resources (e.g., Montage content, podcast episodes) for members that include guidance on the use of the highest-prioritized technologies, including consumer wearable devices, and integration into practice.
  4. Gather information from industry when additional technology information is needed and be a supportive resource for industry-related technology queries (e.g., FAST Program).
  5. Identify the highest priority emerging technologies that may require clinical standards and provide recommendations to the AASM Board of Directors as needed. 
  6. Develop two webinars for the 2025-2026 webinar series.

Committee, task force and panel members are required to disclose any relevant conflicts when appointed in order to determine the appropriate management of conflicts. Any new conflicts that arise during a member’s term must also be disclosed at that time.
