Committee Member
Service as a committee member is a one-year appointment with potential for reappointment for up to two additional terms. Service requires participation on monthly conference calls and collaborative involvement on projects that meet the committee mandate. 

Mandate:

The AASM Foundation Research Career Development Committee develops and implements activities that grow the pipeline of sleep and circadian scientists by helping develop mentorship, grantsmanship, networking opportunities, and strategies to better position early career investigators for a successful career in sleep research

 

Current Goals for 2023/2024:

  1. Sleep Research Program for Advancing Careers: Assess the Sleep Research Program for Advancing Careers and provide recommendations for updates to the Board of Directors, review applications and approve fellows and mentors, and provide feedback on planned curriculum. 
  2. Young Investigators Research Forum: Nominate Chairs and faculty for the Young Investigators Research Forum, review applications and approve participants, provide feedback on planned activities, and provide feedback on Young Investigators Research Forum outcomes paper.
  3. Needs Assessment: Review the needs assessment for sleep researchers and provide a report to the Board of Directors identifying high need areas. 
  4. Networking: Grow the Sleep and Circadian Researchers Engage community and plan the YIRF and SOAR networking lunch to connect early career investigators with other investigators in the field to further support their career growth.

Committee members are required to disclose any relevant conflicts when appointed in order to determine the appropriate management of conflicts. Any new conflicts that arise during a member’s term must also be disclosed at that time.
