About APSS Program Committee
The APSS Program Committee is a joint committee of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) and the Sleep Research Society (SRS). The committee shapes the annual SLEEP meeting and its content – everything from cutting-edge science to engaging speakers to beneficial education opportunities.
Committee Member
Service as a committee member is a two-year appointment with potential for reappointment for up to one additional term. Members are required to attend a day-and-a-half meeting in September and in January and two conference calls in December.
Service requires members to select and organize the scientific and educational elements of the meeting in accordance with established principles of peer review. This includes updates and discussions of scientific topics of interest to sleep clinicians and researchers, as well as topics of importance to the membership of either society related to the practice of sleep medicine and sleep research. The latter topics include, but are not limited to, such areas as the classification of sleep disorders, changes in sleep scoring, writing of research grants, and the business practices of sleep medicine. The APSS Board of Directors will review in a timely fashion the session proposals that have been submitted for the meeting. The Board of Directors will identify up to four proposals – two per society - related to the practice of sleep medicine and sleep research that they feel must be included in the program. The remainder of the educational and scientific components of the program will be the purview of the Program Committee keeping in mind the hot topics identified by the APSS Board of Directors.

Committee members are required to disclose any relevant conflicts when appointed to determine the appropriate management of conflicts. Any new conflicts that arise during a member’s term must also be disclosed at that time. Note, APSS has a separate conflict of interest policy.
